A Book in My Back Pocket

I had trouble getting interested or caring about a hero who operates a high class whorehouse and is a controlling, possessive abusive alcoholic with anger management issues. Not mention he stalks the heroine who keeps going back to the psychotic asshole for more and is therefore too stupid to live. The novel is far too disturbing for my taste. Out of curiosity I did read the first chapter of series book 2, Beneath This Man, and wasn't surprised to see Ava returns to Jesse after finding him passed out dead drunk and their over-the-top, out-of-control relationship continues. Of course all the while she is telling herself she should leave him.

It was pretty clear Ava as well as Jesse's friends were enabling him and condoning his appalling psycho behavior.

I won't be reading further in this series.
